You start by asking ordinary ChatGPT one bare question: write an SOP for receiving an inbound shipment at our warehouse. The answer looks official but says almost nothing. It talks about operational excellence and relevant stakeholders. The steps are "prepare the receiving area as needed" and "store items in the appropriate location". There are no owners, no numbers, and no way for a supervisor to tell the job was done right.

Then you build a Custom GPT called SOP Writer. You give it format rules and an operations handbook, and ask the exact same question again. This time it writes SOP-REC-01: Receiving an Inbound Shipment. It has an owner, the docks it covers and how long it takes. Six numbered steps each start with a verb and name the role that does them, from chocking the trailer wheels to put-away the same shift. What goes into the SOP rules and the operations handbook

The instructions set a strict format. Every SOP opens with a code and title, then the owner, where it applies and how long it takes. Steps are numbered, one action each, and start with a verb. The role that does the step goes in brackets. Every SOP ends with a "Check" line and an "If something goes wrong" line. Eight steps or fewer, under 200 words.
