Claude artifacts: build, test, change and share a small tool
An artifact is a working tool Claude builds in a panel beside the chat, like a price calculator you can click, test and share. Bright Path Landscaping is a made-up company and its prices are samples.
Ask for it
- Start a new chat and describe the tool: who it's for, what they enter, what it shows.
- Give every real price and rule in the message. Claude does the building.
- Add "Show how the price is worked out" so you can check each result.
- No artifact? Turn on Code execution and file creation in Settings > Capabilities.
Test it like a customer
- Check one
- 8,000 sq ft of Aeration: $40 + $8 × 8 = $104.
- Check another
- Fertilizing: $35 + $5 × 8 = $75.
- Expand
- The expand button at the top right shows it full page. Chat brings the conversation back.
Change one thing, in the same chat
Add a Number of visits box. Take 10% off at 10 visits or more. Keep everything else the same.
Claude updates the same artifact. Test it: 26 visits × $49 = $1,274, minus $127.40 = $1,146.60.
Share and find it again
- Artifacts start private. Click Share, then under General access change Only you to Anyone with the link, then Copy link.
- Anthropic's help center says viewers need a Claude account, so open the link in a private window first.
- Older artifacts show Publish instead: it gives a public link.
- The artifact's name opens Export, Rename and Duplicate. Everything is saved in Artifacts in the sidebar.
Remember: Put your real numbers in the prompt and test two or three results by hand before anyone else sees the tool.
