If your form is built in Typeform or Tally, turn on its built-in Slack integration and pick a channel. For any other form, or when you want to add a step in between such as AI scoring, use an automation: a "form submitted" trigger in n8n, Zapier or Make, followed by a Slack Send a message step to your channel. The free lesson Speed-to-Lead Agent builds the smarter version, where a website form's lead gets an AI score and Slack is pinged only when the lead is hot.
Posting every single entry is easy. The useful question is which entries deserve a ping. A channel that lights up for every newsletter sign-up soon gets muted, and then the important one is missed too.
Which route fits my form?
| Your form | Easiest route |
|---|---|
| Typeform | Its Slack integration, set up inside your Typeform account |
| Tally | Its Slack integration, from the Integrations tab of a published form |
| Google Forms | Zapier or Make with a new-response trigger |
| Your own website form | n8n or Make with a webhook |
| Any form, with filtering or AI | n8n, Zapier or Make, with a condition before the Slack step |
What are the steps with an automation tool?
- Pick the trigger. In n8n, On form submission (n8n hosts the form) or On webhook call (your website sends entries to it). In Zapier, your form app's new-response trigger.
- Test it with one real-looking entry so the next steps can see the fields.
- Add a condition if needed. An If step that only continues for, say, a certain service, or for a score above a level.
- Add Slack, Send a message. Connect your Slack workspace, choose Channel, pick the channel and write the message with the form fields in it: who, what they want, how to reach them.
- Test, then publish. Make sure your website uses the production web address, not the test one.
The n8n Slack node post shows the Slack step settings in detail. If you also want every entry in a spreadsheet, see website form to Google Sheets.
What does this look like in a real lesson?
In Speed-to-Lead Agent, Maya at a made-up bookkeeping firm already has her website form sending each lead to an n8n Webhook. You add an Information Extractor that scores the lead from 1 to 10 with a reason and writes a short first reply. Gmail sends that reply to the lead straight away (with the n8n attribution line turned off). Then an If step checks whether the score is 8 or more, and only on the true branch does a Slack Send a message step post to #new-leads with the score, the person and company, the reason and their email. Low-scoring leads still get their reply, but nobody is pinged. You test on a pinned lead and publish, using the Production URL on the website form.
To learn the two kinds of form trigger first, Capture Every Quote Request in One Google Sheet builds an n8n-hosted form and a webhook for a website contact form, tests each with its Test URL, and saves every request to a sheet. Add a Slack step after either trigger and you have the alert. If you would rather use Zapier, Never Miss a New Client Inquiry shows the trigger and action pattern with Google Forms; swap the Google Sheets action for Slack.
What should the Slack message say?
- Who: name and company.
- What: the service or question, in their words.
- Why it matters: a score or a reason, if you have one.
- How to reach them: email or phone.
- Where to see the rest: a link to the full entry or the sheet.
Keep personal details to what the team needs. A public channel is not the place for sensitive answers.
What mistakes should I avoid?
- Pinging for every entry. Filter, or the channel gets ignored.
- Testing with the live URL. Use the test URL first, then switch the website form to the production URL when you publish.
- Posting sensitive answers to a public channel. Use a private channel or leave those fields out.
- Forgetting to publish. A workflow that is only tested does not run on its own.
- Auto-replying with promises. If an AI writes a reply to the lead, keep it to next steps, and check the first ones yourself.
Key takeaways
- Typeform and Tally have built-in Slack integrations.
- For other forms, a trigger plus Slack Send a message in n8n, Zapier or Make does it.
- Add an If step so only the entries that matter ping the team.
- Include who, what, why and how to reach them in the message.
- Test with the test URL, then publish with the production URL.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I send the message to one person instead of a channel?
Yes. Slack steps in automation tools can send a direct message instead of posting to a channel, and Typeform and Tally can send to direct messages too.
- Do I need AI for this?
No. A plain form-to-Slack alert needs no AI. AI helps when you want to score, sort or summarize entries before deciding who gets pinged.
- What is a webhook?
A web address that waits for data. Your website form sends each entry to it, and that starts the workflow. The glossary entry on webhooks explains more.
