What you'll build
Larkspur Immigration Law is a made-up three-lawyer firm. Someone with a visa deadline fills in the contact form on Friday night, and it looks like every other message until Monday. In this lesson you build an intake chat with Landbot AI Copilot that asks about the deadline and sets the right expectation. You test it as a visitor, then catch a wrong firm name that Copilot said it had fixed.
You built the flow from a brief, tried it as a visitor, and checked the claims Copilot made. Before a real firm uses this, have a lawyer read every line, publish it, run one test all the way through, and confirm the alert reaches the right inbox.

Practice first, then build it for real
Practice copy built from real Landbot screens (app.landbot.io), captured 31 October 2026 on a 14-day trial with no card. Nothing here touches a Landbot account. The firm, the visitor and the addresses are made up. The drafts and replies are what Landbot AI Copilot produced, and yours will differ. We never published the agent or ran the email alert, so sending, the embed and recorded leads were not part of our test. To build it for real you need your own Landbot account, and some services charge once you use them for real work, so check each tool's current pricing.
Try it yourself, free
Reading the steps is a start. Doing them is how it sticks. The interactive module walks you through every click in a practice copy of Landbot, checks each step, and never touches your real accounts.

All 37 steps of the interactive module, in order. In the module you watch each one, then do it yourself in a practice copy that checks your work.
1. Answer Copilot
- Say who you are. You help run Larkspur Immigration Law, a made-up three-lawyer firm. Someone with a visa deadline fills in the contact form on Friday night, and it looks like every other message until Monday. A new Landbot account opens with AI Copilot asking a few questions. Enter your first name.
Someone with a visa deadline fills in your contact form on Friday night, and it looks like every other message until Monday. Landbot starts with a few questions. Enter your first name.
- Say what it is for. Click Work.
- Choose your industry. Click Legal services. Copilot uses this to tailor its first draft.
- Answer where you heard of it. Pick whichever is true. In our test we clicked Other, typed a few words and clicked Send. This has no effect on the agent.
Pick whichever is true. It has no effect on the agent.
- Say what you need. A new client inquiry is a lead, so click Generate leads on my website.
A new client inquiry is a lead.
- Answer the tools question. Pick what applies. We clicked None yet, then Send.
- Let AI draft it. Click Let AI build my first draft. It took about 15 seconds in our test.
It takes about fifteen seconds.
2. Read the first draft
- Read the name on the draft. Copilot never asked your firm's name. It seems to have used the domain of the email we signed up with, loaded that site behind the preview, and wrote XINTERACTIVE in the header. The site is really Ynteractive, so even the spelling is wrong. Click the name.
Copilot never asked your firm's name. It seems to have used our sign up email's website, and it even misspelled the name.
- Look at the flow. Click Workflow to see the conversation as boxes. It asks if you need legal services support, then asks about a budget range. That is generic, and nothing asks about a deadline.
It is generic, and nothing asks about a deadline.
3. Give it the real brief
- Give Copilot the real brief. Tell it the firm, the questions in order, what to say on each path, and what it must never do. The deadline question is the point of this agent.
Tell it the firm, the questions in order, what to say on each path, and what it must never do. The deadline question is the point.
This agent is for Larkspur Immigration Law, a three-lawyer firm. Rewrite it from the start. Greet people as the firm's assistant. Ask what they need help with (Work visa, Family green card, Citizenship, Something else), then how soon they have a deadline (Within 30 days, 1 to 3 months, No deadline), then name, email and phone. If the deadline is within 30 days, say a lawyer will call within one business day. Otherwise, say the office will reply within two business days to book a consultation. Never give legal advice, and say so once at the start.
- Send the brief. Click the arrow.
- Read the plan, then confirm. Copilot lists every step, then warns that this will replace the current flow and asks you to confirm. That pause is useful on a real agent. This one is a first draft, so say yes.
Copilot lists every step and asks you to confirm before replacing the flow. That pause is useful on a real agent. This is a first draft, so say yes.
- Open the live preview. It says it is done, and the flow on the right has changed. Now try it. Click Live chat.
It says it is done. Now try it.
4. Test it as a visitor
- Choose a service. The welcome is right, and it says this chat does not give legal advice. Look at the header, though: it still says XINTERACTIVE. Note that for later. Click Work visa.
The welcome is right, but the header still has the wrong name. Note that for later.
- Choose the urgent deadline. Copilot shortened your question to What is your timeline? Click Within 30 days, the path that matters most.
- Enter a made-up name. Use a made-up name when you test, and never a real client.
Use a made-up name when you test, never a real client.
- Try a bad email. People make typos. Enter this address with no ending, and press Enter.
People make typos. Enter this address with no ending.
- Fix the email. It asks again: Please enter a valid email address. Copilot added this check without being asked. Enter the full address.
It asks again. Copilot added this check without being asked. Enter the full address.
- Enter a made-up phone number. The number field has a country picker. We used a made-up 555 number.
We used a made-up five five five number.
- Read the promise it just made. A lawyer will call within one business day. That is what you asked for, and it is a real promise to a person with a deadline. The plan also said Thank you, Priya, but that part is not here, so check the words against the plan. Click the message.
A lawyer will call within one business day. That is a real promise. Also, the plan said thank you, and the chat does not. Check the words against the plan.
5. Check what Copilot claims
- Ask Copilot to fix the header. Now deal with that wrong name in the header. Ask for exactly what you want.
Now deal with the wrong name. Ask for exactly what you want.
- Send it. Click the arrow.
- Confirm the change. Copilot proposes the new title and asks you to confirm. Give it a subtitle too.
Copilot asks you to confirm. Give it a subtitle too.
- Check it yourself. Copilot says Done. Look at the preview: it still says XINTERACTIVE. We clicked refresh and reloaded the page, and it still did. So "done" is a claim to check. You will fix this by hand in a few steps. Click the header.
Copilot says done, but the preview still has the old name, even after a reload. Done is a claim to check. You will fix it by hand soon.
6. Tell the firm about the lead
- Ask for an alert. So far, the chat makes a promise and nobody at the firm hears about it. Ask for an email alert, with URGENT in the subject for short deadlines. Use your firm's real inbox. Ours is a made-up example address.
So far, the chat makes a promise and nobody at the firm hears about it. Ask for an email alert, with urgent in the subject for short deadlines.
After someone gives their phone number, send an email alert to intake@example.com with what they need, their deadline, name, email and phone. Put URGENT in the subject when the deadline is within 30 days.
- Confirm the alert. Copilot shows the subject, the body and how the boxes connect, then asks you to confirm. Say yes.
Copilot shows the subject and the body, then asks you to confirm. Say yes.
- Look for the alert. It says Done again. After the header, you check. Click Workflow.
It says done again. After the header, you check.
- Open the builder. Click Edit workflow to open the full builder.
- See the whole flow. Click the fit to screen button in the bottom toolbar.
- Find the email box. This time it is true. Two Send an email boxes sit after the phone question, one on each path, and then the deadline messages follow. We did not run this part, because we do not send test email from a made-up inbox, so send one test of your own after you publish. Click the top email box.
This time it is true. Two email boxes sit after the phone question. We did not run them, so send one test of your own after you publish.
7. Fix it by hand and look ahead
- Fix the header by hand. Back to the header. Click Design at the top, then Layout. The fix Copilot claimed lives here, and you can do it yourself in seconds.
Back to the header.
- Type the firm name. Logo text still says XINTERACTIVE, so Copilot's change did not land. Enter the firm name. We also set Tagline to New client intake and removed the logo it had pulled from our website.
Logo text still has the old name. Enter the firm name. We also changed the tagline and removed the logo it pulled from our website.
- Apply the change. The header on the right now shows the right name. Click Apply. When we reloaded the Live chat preview, it stayed.
The header is right now.
- Look at launch options. Click Launch to see how a real firm would put this on its site.
- See your choices. You can embed it as a bubble, a full page or a section of a page, or use Share with a link. Before any of those, have a lawyer read every line. We did not click Publish, because this firm is made up. Click Share with a link.
You can embed it or share a link. Have a lawyer read every line first. We did not publish, because this firm is made up.
- Go back to your agents. Click the red arrow at the top left.
- See what a preview does not count. It shows 0 chats, even though we finished a full test chat. Inbox and Contacts were empty too. Preview tests are not recorded as leads, so test the published agent once before you trust it. This list also shows a second New agent that sign-up left behind. Landbot's pricing page says the trial needs no card, and the Free plan afterward has 100 chats a month and no AI chats. This flow uses fixed questions, not AI chat, so check it still runs after your trial. Click the 0 to finish.
Zero chats, even after a full test. Preview tests are not recorded as leads. So test the published agent once before you trust it.
