What is an AI scorecard?
Quick answer
An AI scorecard is a short checklist you use to compare AI answers fairly. You give the same task to several assistants, then check each answer against the same facts, such as a date, a phone number and the number of rows in a table.

Why it matters for a small business
Asking which AI is best usually gets opinions. A scorecard gets evidence. You pick a real task, give the identical wording to each assistant, and check a few facts that you know are right. Answers that look polished can still contain a wrong date.
The lesson's honest finding is that for everyday office work, the big four are close. The differences are style: subject lines, length and extra details you didn't ask for. That means the deciding factor is usually which one you are allowed to use at work, not which one scored highest on a single test.
A scorecard also protects you from being impressed by length. A longer answer with a bolder subject line can look better while missing the one fact that mattered. Because you check the same few items on every answer, you judge them on substance. It takes a few minutes, and you can reuse the same sheet for the next task you test.
In a real lesson: Same Task, Four Assistants: ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Copilot
In the Same Task, Four Assistants lesson, you're Carla, office manager at Ridgeline Insurance Agency, a made-up business. You paste one task into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot: a client reminder email and a table of this week's tasks.
On your Scorecard tab you check each answer on the date, the VIN request, the phone number and the five rows, and click All 3 correct for each row. Then you choose which one Carla should use at work.

Common confusions
Scorecard vs a benchmark
A benchmark is a published test of a model. Your scorecard tests your own task, which is more relevant to you.
Same task vs same style
You can only compare fairly if the task wording is identical. Style will still differ.
Tips
- Choose facts you already know, so checking is quick.
- Paste the task word for word each time.
- Treat extra details as claims to check, not free bonuses.

Frequently asked questions
- Which assistant won in the lesson?
- All four did the job. The lesson picks Copilot Chat for Ridgeline because the agency already pays for Microsoft 365.
- What does the scorecard check?
- The date, the VIN request, the phone number and the five rows of the task table.
- Do I need paid plans to compare?
- The lesson says all four have a free version, so you can try them on your own tasks at home.
