What is Miro?

Quick answer

Miro (miro.com) is an online whiteboard where a team brainstorms, plans and maps work together on a shared board. People add sticky notes, diagrams and frames, often starting from one of thousands of templates. Miro AI can generate sticky notes, cluster them into themes and summarize them into a document.

Why it matters for a small business

A planning meeting usually ends with ideas scattered across a whiteboard, a chat and three notebooks. On a Miro board everyone writes in the same place, live or on their own time, so the raw ideas are already typed up when the meeting ends.

The slow part of a brainstorm is sorting. Miro's help center says you select a group of sticky notes, click Miro AI, then Cluster, and choose By keywords or By sentiment. Document, then Summary, turns the same selection into a written summary. It also lists these sticky note AI features on the Free plan.

Miro calls itself an AI-powered visual platform. Beyond sticky notes, it has Sidekicks, AI agents that work on the board, and Flows, multi-step AI workflows a team can build and run.

In a real lesson: Meeting to Action: Recap, Tracker Rows and a Kickoff Deck (ChatGPT, n8n, Gamma)

The Meeting to Action lesson does not use Miro. In it, you leave the Harbor Dental kickoff meeting with a page of rough notes, and ChatGPT turns them into Decisions, an Action items table and Open questions, writing TBD where a date is missing. n8n then adds one row per action item to a Google Sheet, and Gamma builds the kickoff deck.

Miro does the first part of that job: capturing the meeting. If the team adds its ideas and tasks as sticky notes on a board during the kickoff, Miro AI can cluster them by keyword and write a summary, so the notes you paste into ChatGPT are already grouped and readable. The ChatGPT, n8n and Gamma steps stay the same.

Common confusions

Miro vs Notion

Miro is a visual canvas for sticky notes, diagrams and mapping ideas. Notion is pages and databases for written docs and tasks. Teams often brainstorm in Miro and keep the outcome in Notion.

A Miro board vs an n8n canvas

Both are canvases. A Miro board holds ideas and diagrams for people to read. An n8n workflow canvas holds nodes that actually run.

Tips

  • Start from a template, such as a retrospective or brainstorm, instead of a blank board.
  • Ask for one idea per sticky note so clustering has clean pieces to sort.
  • Rename each cluster in your own words before you share the summary.
