Why this matters
Every promotion needs the same picture in several shapes: wide for LinkedIn, square for the Instagram feed, tall for Stories and Reels. Cropping a wide image tall throws most of it away, and asking a designer for each size takes time (example: 45 minutes a webinar).
Higgsfield can expand (outpaint) an image to a new shape: the original stays untouched and new picture is painted around it. 2 credits per size in our run.
Practice
Do every step yourself in a practice copy of the real tool. It checks your work, and “Do it for me” finishes any step you get stuck on.
What you’ll build

You help Elena Park expand a 16:9 webinar image to 9:16 and 1:1 for 2 credits each, check the invented edges, and plan where the headline goes in the tall version.
What you need
- Nothing to start the practiceA practice copy with our real outputs.
- The 16:9 sample imageTry the expand on the same image.
- A Higgsfield account with credits, to do it for realHiggsfield sells monthly plans with credits; check current plans and what the free tier includes before you rely on it. Concepts
Crop vs expand
Cropping keeps a slice; expanding keeps everything and adds more. The new part is invented, so check the edges for strange furniture, hands or text before you post.
Plan the words for each shape
In our 9:16 version the desk sits in the lower third and the top is empty wall: that is where the title and date go. Phone apps cover the very top and bottom with buttons, so keep text in the middle of the frame. Add it in your editor, not in the AI image.
Do it for real
Now repeat it in your own account. Tick each step as you go.

Quick check
3 questions to check you’ve got it.
1. What does expanding do that cropping cannot?
- Keeps the whole original and adds new picture around it
- Makes the file smaller
- Removes the background
Show the answer
Keeps the whole original and adds new picture around it. Cropping throws picture away; expanding adds it.
2. Where do you check an expanded image most carefully?
- The middle
- The new edges
- The file name
Show the answer
The new edges. The edges are invented.
3. Where should the webinar title go?
- Inside the AI prompt
- In your editor, in the empty space, away from the top and bottom edges
- Nowhere
Show the answer
In your editor, in the empty space, away from the top and bottom edges. Words added in an editor stay exact, and phone apps cover the edges.
