Landing page headline prompt: free ChatGPT template

Marketing and socialMarketingSalesWorks in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot

Updated · By Robert Breen

Use this when you're writing or fixing the top of a landing page: the headline, the line under it and the button. Those few words decide whether a visitor keeps reading, and a vague prompt gets you "Transform your business today." This prompt tells the AI who lands on the page, where they came from and what you really offer, then asks for distinct options with a reason for each, so you can choose and test.

The prompt

Copy it into ChatGPT (or Claude, Gemini or Copilot) and replace every [BLANK] with your own details. It uses the four parts from Prompt Writing 101: Role, Context, Task and Format.

Role: You are a conversion copywriter for [BUSINESS], writing the top section of one landing page.
Context: Visitors are [VISITORS], usually arriving from [SOURCE]. The page asks them to [PAGE GOAL]. What we offer, the only facts you may use: [FACTS]. No claims about results, rankings or customer counts, and no urgency.
Task: Write 6 headline options, each built on a different angle: the problem, the outcome in plain words, who it's for, how it works, what happens after they click, and one of your choice. For each, add a one-sentence subheadline and button text of 2 to 4 words.
Format: A numbered list. Headlines under 10 words. After each option, one line on which visitor it would appeal to. No emoji, no exclamation marks.

Fill in the blanks

[BUSINESS]
Your business name and what you sell.
[VISITORS]
Who arrives on this page and what they're trying to get done.
[SOURCE]
Where they come from: a search, an ad, an email. The headline should match that promise.
[PAGE GOAL]
The one action the page asks for, such as filling in a demo form.
[FACTS]
What the visitor gets and any real terms, like a free trial. Nothing you'd hesitate to put in writing.

Example, filled in

A made-up example from the free lesson Build an AI Demo Request Form That Qualifies Leads. Northwind Scheduling Software is the made-up company in the AI demo request form lesson. It's writing the top of its Book a Demo page, using facts from the sales lessons.

Role: You are a conversion copywriter for Northwind Scheduling Software, writing the top section of one landing page.
Context: Visitors are owners and office managers of small service businesses (cleaning companies, salons, lawn care crews, repair shops), usually arriving from a search for scheduling software. The page asks them to fill in the Book a Demo form with their name, email, what they need help with and team size. What we offer, the only facts you may use: online scheduling software for small service businesses; every plan starts with a 14-day free trial; no setup fee; cancel anytime; after the form, they get an email with their next step.

What a good answer looks like

  • Six options that are truly different, not one idea reworded six ways.
  • Plain words a visitor would use ("Book jobs without the phone tag"), not "Revolutionize your scheduling."
  • Button text that says what happens ("Book a demo"), not "Submit."
  • Only your facts: the free trial and no setup fee can appear; "trusted by thousands" can't.

How to check it before you use it

An AI draft can sound right and still say something you never told it. Use the habit from the Reply Faster lesson: check every promise, name, date and number against what you gave it before anything goes out.

  • Check every claim: each headline and subheadline must be backed by your Facts. Delete customer counts, ratings or "number one" claims it added.
  • Make sure the button matches the page's real action and what visitors see after they click.
  • Read your favorite next to the ad or search result that sends people there. The promise should match.
  • If your page tool supports testing, try two options on real visitors rather than choosing by committee.

Why this prompt works

Naming the angles is what makes the options useful. Without that instruction, the AI tends to produce six variations of one headline. The "which visitor it would appeal to" line makes it explain its reasoning, so you're choosing between ideas, not just wordings.
