Updated . Built against the tool’s current screens and checked step by step. How we check this lesson

Lindy can read your email and act for you, which is useful and a little scary. Knowing its parts, and where the approvals sit, is what makes it safe to hand it real work. This short module is the map: Lindy’s four parts, three office jobs it suits, and the checks before it works on its own. It is a free, five-minute module of explainer cards, the first module of the Lindy Jump Start. This is my own lesson, not an official Lindy course.

What you will do

Three explainer sheets: what Lindy does, which routine for which job, and three checks before it works on its own.

Every fact on the cards comes from the tool’s own website, read 20 October 2026. The cards show no app screens; the next modules in the course use real ones.

A routine has three parts

Lindy’s docs say every routine has a trigger (when it runs), a prompt (what to do, in plain English) and a destination (where the result goes). It runs on a schedule or on an event, like a new email.

Approvals keep you in charge

Lindy says approvals are built in. For Gmail, set the guardrail to Ask for approval while you learn, and read every draft before you send it.

Memory you can open

Lindy says its memory lives in plain files you can open. Check them now and then and fix anything out of date.

Try it in Lindy

  • Pick one kind of email you answer every week.
  • In Lindy, set the Gmail guardrail to Ask for approval.
  • Build a routine with a narrow trigger and draft-only instructions.
  • Test it on one email and read the draft.
  • Widen it only after it has been right for a while.

Try it yourself, free

Reading the steps is a start. Doing them is how it sticks. The interactive module walks you through every click in a practice copy of Lindy, checks each step, and never touches your real accounts.

Step by step: Lindy for Beginners: Routines, Memory and Approvals Explained

All 12 steps of the interactive module, in order. In the module you watch each one, then do it yourself in a practice copy that checks your work.

1. What Lindy does

  1. Open the Routines card. Click the Routines card.

Start with routines. A routine is work Lindy does again and again. Lindy's docs say it has three parts. A trigger, for when it runs. A prompt, in plain English, for what to do. And a destination, for where the result goes. Start narrow and test it on one item first.

  2. Open the Skills card. Click the Skills and integrations card.

Skills and integrations. Lindy connects to your tools, like Gmail and your calendar, and comes with built-in skills. Connect only the accounts a routine actually needs.

  3. Open the Memory card. Click the Memory card.

Memory. Lindy says what it remembers lives in plain files you can open. Look at them now and then, and fix anything out of date.

  4. Open the Approvals card. Click the Approvals card.

And approvals. Lindy says approvals are built in. For Gmail, set the guardrail to Ask for approval, so nothing goes out without you. Keep it on while you learn.

2. Which routine for which job

  1. Open the jobs sheet. Click the Which routine for which job tab.

Now let's match Lindy to real office jobs.

  2. Match the client emails. Click the Forty client emails a week card.

Forty client emails a week. An email drafting routine puts a draft in Gmail for each one, and you still check and send it. That's the next module.

  3. Match the meetings job. Click the Meetings you need notes from card.

Meetings. Lindy's docs list built-in routines for meeting recording, prep and scheduling. Always ask everyone on the call before you record.

  4. Match the phone job. Click the Calls you cannot pick up card.

Calls you can't pick up. Lindy says it can have its own phone number, answer as a receptionist and book appointments. US numbers only for now, so check the limits first.

3. Before you trust it

  1. Open the checks sheet. Click the Before you trust it tab.

Last tab. Three checks before Lindy works on its own.

  2. Read the drafts check. Click the Drafts, not sends card.

Drafts, not sends. Read every draft, and check each date, fee and form before you send it yourself. Widen a routine only after it's been right for a while.

  3. Read the data check. Click the Your data card.

Your data. Lindy says it's SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant, and that it doesn't use your data to train AI models. Still follow your firm's rules before you connect a client inbox.

  4. Read the plan check. Click the Trial, then paid card.

Lindy is a paid product that starts with a free trial. Check the pricing page before you widen a routine to every email. That's the map. Next, you'll build the email routine.
