Claude for Google Workspace: Claude Now Works Inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
You can ask Claude to tighten a summary, build a pivot table or fix a slide right in the Google file you have open, and approve each change before it lands.
What happened
On October 6, 2026, Anthropic released Claude for Google Workspace, a Google add-on that lets Claude read and edit the Docs, Sheets and Slides file you have open, in public beta on all paid Claude plans. Anthropic also added Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors, in beta, so Claude can create and edit Google files from a regular Claude chat. By default the add-on works in "Ask before edits" mode, where each change shows up as an approval card; "Accept all edits" lets Claude work through the task without stopping. Anthropic says Claude’s access to files matches your existing Google sharing permissions, and on Enterprise plans controls such as the Compliance API and customer-managed encryption keys also cover the add-on. Who gets it, and what it costs
- Plans: public beta on all paid Claude plans. Anthropic does not mention the Free plan.
- Install: from the Google Workspace Marketplace, then open a file and choose Extensions > Claude > Open Claude.
- Team and Enterprise: an owner or primary owner must turn on the Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors first.
- Google admins: can deploy the add-on to the whole domain or selected groups from the Google Admin console.
Anthropic lists no separate price for the add-on. It comes with a paid Claude plan while it is in beta.
What it means for an office team
The basic job is the one you do at month end: in Sheets, ask Claude for a budget vs. actuals report with a tab per team that flags overspending, which is Anthropic’s own example. In Docs, ask it to tighten the executive summary or turn the next steps into a table.
Leave it on "Ask before edits" while you learn it. Each change arrives as a card you approve, so a wrong formula or a rewritten number never lands in a shared file without you seeing it first.
