Why this matters
Most deals do not die on the call. They die in the week after, when the notes sit in a notebook, the promised proposal goes out late and nobody remembers what the prospect said about budget.
In this module you do the two-minute routine after a discovery call in Close CRM: create the lead, log the call with notes (without dialling), set a dated follow-up task and add the deal to the pipeline. Then you check that the follow-up will come back to you on the right day.
What you’ll build
A lead in Close with its contact, a logged call with notes and duration, and a follow-up task with a due date.
An opportunity worth $1,200 a month in the first stage of the Sales Pipeline, and the task waiting in your Inbox.
What you need
- Nothing to start the practiceThe practice is built from real Close screens and does not touch any account or make a call.
- A Close account, to do it for realClose offers a 14-day free trial; check close.com for current plans.
Concepts
2 ideas you’ll use in the practice.
Lead, contact, opportunity, task
In Close a lead is a company. Contacts are the people at it, each with their phone and email. An opportunity is a deal with a value, a status (pipeline stage) and a confidence. A task is a dated to-do that lands in your Inbox.
Keeping all four on one lead page means anyone on the team can see what was said, what was promised and what happens next.
Log a call, do not dial it
The Call button starts a real phone call through Close. When the call already happened on another phone or in a meeting, use the arrow next to Call and choose Log a call: you add notes and a duration, and nothing is dialled.
Write the notes for the person who picks the account up next: the need, the timing, the budget and what you promised.
Practice
Do every step yourself in a practice copy of the real tool. It checks your work, and “Do it for me” finishes any step you get stuck on.
Do it for real
Now repeat it in your own account. Tick each step as you go.
Quick check
3 questions to check you’ve got it.
1. The call already happened on your mobile. How do you record it in Close without dialling?
- Arrow next to Call > Log a call
- Click Call
- Send an SMS
Show the answer
Arrow next to Call > Log a call. Log a call adds the call to the timeline with notes and a duration; Call starts a new phone call.
2. Where does a follow-up task show up on its due date?
- In your Inbox
- Only on the lead page
- In the pipeline board
Show the answer
In your Inbox. Tasks due today appear in the Inbox; future ones wait under Inbox > Future.
3. In Close, what is an opportunity?
- A deal with a value and a stage
- A new contact
- A logged call
Show the answer
A deal with a value and a stage. Opportunities hold the value, status and confidence, and feed the Sales Pipeline.
