Between meetings or on the road you can ask "what did the client say about the delivery date?" and get the answer from your own email, without scrolling through threads on a small screen.

## What happened

On October 15, 2026, Google announced Gmail Live for paid Google Workspace customers: a voice search in the Gmail mobile app that answers questions about your inbox out loud. You ask in plain words and hear a spoken answer. Each answer shows an email source card, so you can see which message it came from. Google’s examples include asking for the order status from a supplier, when your next required training is due, and the latest update from your manager. It works on Android and iOS only, and for now only for users in the US with their language set to English (US). You can pick the voice it uses. Google started a gradual rollout on October 15, 2026 for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, so it can take up to 15 days to show up for an account. ## Who gets it, and what it costs

- **Google Workspace:** Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; Frontline Plus; and Google Workspace for Nonprofits.
- **Add-ons:** Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access, plus Google AI Pro for Education.
- **Personal accounts:** Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers.
- **Admins:** it is on by default for organizations with Gemini in Workspace, and it follows the existing smart features and personalization settings. Admins control it with the setting that turns Gemini features on or off for users.

Google lists no separate price. It comes with the plans and add-ons above, on the Gmail app for Android or iOS, in the US with English (US) as your language.

## What it means for an office team

The everyday use is the quick check before a call. In the car park before a client meeting you ask "what was the last thing Dana from Harbor Street said about the invoice?" (made up) and hear the answer, with the email it came from on screen.

Treat the spoken answer as a pointer, not the record. Open the source card before you quote a date, an amount or a promise back to a client, because those are the details worth checking in the email itself.

## How to try it

1. Check your plan against the list above, and that you are in the US with your language set to English (US). The rollout started October 15, 2026 and can take up to 15 days to reach your account.
2. Open the Gmail app on your Android phone or iPhone and tap the Live entry point in the search bar.
3. The first time, allow microphone access when Gmail asks.
4. Ask a question about your email in plain words, then open the source card to read the message the answer came from.
