The follow-up email and the to-do list after a meeting can be ready when the call ends, so nobody has to rebuild them from memory.

## What happened

On October 12, 2026, Google announced next steps on the Google Meet post-meeting screen, powered by Gemini and Workspace Studio. At launch there are two: draft a follow-up email in Gmail, and add the meeting’s action items to Google Tasks. Google says more are coming. You turn a step on from the “Routines for this meeting” section after a call, for one meeting or for all of your meetings, and it works for one-off and recurring meetings. It only works if “Take notes for me” was turned on during the meeting. Without it, no next steps appear. The email is a draft in Gmail that you review and send yourself, and Google began an extended rollout on October 5, so it can take more than 15 days to show up for an account. ## Who gets it, and what it costs

- **Google Workspace:** Business Standard and Plus, and Enterprise Standard and Plus.
- **Education:** the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.
- **Not listed:** Business Starter and free personal Google accounts.
- **Admins:** the feature is on by default. An admin can turn it off for the whole domain, an organizational unit or a group, in the Workspace Studio admin settings or the “Take notes for me” setting.

Google lists no separate price. The feature comes with the eligible Workspace plans above, so you need one of them and “Take notes for me” turned on in the meeting.

## What it means for an office team

The most basic use is the recap after a recurring team meeting. The call ends, the draft follow-up email is waiting in Gmail with the decisions and who owns what, and the action items are already in Google Tasks with the people who agreed to them.

Treat both as drafts. Tell people “Take notes for me” is on, read the email against what was actually said before you send it, and check the task owners and dates. Names and deadlines are the details a notes tool gets wrong.

## How to try it

1. Check your plan: Business Standard or Plus, Enterprise Standard or Plus, or the Google AI Pro for Education add-on. Google began an extended rollout on October 5, so it can take more than 15 days to reach your account.
2. Turn on “Take notes for me” in the meeting, and tell people it is on. Without it, no next steps appear.
3. After the call, open “Routines for this meeting” on the post-meeting screen and turn on a next step: draft the follow-up email in Gmail, or add the action items to Google Tasks, for this meeting or for all of them.
4. Read the draft email against what was actually said before you send it, and check the task owners and dates.
