Uploading is the easy part. The two things that decide whether the answer is right are the kind of PDF you have (real text or a scan) and how you ask. A vague "anything I should know?" gets a vague summary. A table with section numbers gets something you can check. ## What are the steps to upload a PDF to ChatGPT? 1. **Decide where the chat lives.** If the PDF is a contract, a proposal or anything with client details, click the **Temporary chat** icon at the top right first. Temporary chats do not appear in your history. 2. **Attach the file.** Click the **+** next to the message box, then **Add photos & files**, then pick the PDF and click **Open**. It sits above the message box as a small preview. There are two kinds of PDF. A **digital PDF** was made by a computer program, so the words are real text. You can tell because you can select a sentence and copy it. A **scanned PDF** is a picture of a page, from a scanner or a phone.
