[Granola](https://learn.ynteractive.com/content/glossary/granola) is a third-party AI notepad that transcribes your meetings from your computer, with no bot joining the call, and writes the notes when the call ends. In this free lesson you start with the business case: a consultant with twelve client calls a week spends about three hours writing them up. Then, in a practice copy of Granola, you open the meeting, check the live transcript, jot four short lines, end the recording, check the budget line against what the client said, ask Granola for the [follow-up email](https://learn.ynteractive.com/content/glossary/follow-up-email) and copy a share link for your partner.

## The business case: three hours a week of write-ups

A consultant, account manager or recruiter with a full calendar loses time after every call, not during it. Writing the notes, pulling out the next steps and drafting the follow-up takes about fifteen minutes a call. At twelve calls a week that is three hours, and the follow-up often goes out the next day instead of the same afternoon.

If the notes are already written when the call ends, the job shrinks to checking and sharing them: about four minutes a call. The lesson uses those example numbers; put in your own call count and minutes to see what it is worth to you.

## What you will do in the lesson

You are Dana, a consultant at Larkspur Advisory, a made-up firm, on a scoping call with Maya Torres of Alder & Finch Logistics. You open the meeting from Granola's home screen, check that the green bars show it is transcribing, and open the live transcript. During the call you type four short lines: the budget, who decides, the go-live date and what you promised.

When the call ends you click stop and Granola writes the enhanced notes, using your four lines as headings. You click the magnifying glass next to the budget line to see the exact words it came from, ask Granola for a follow-up email in the chat box, and copy a share link from the Shared menu.

## Who this is for

Consultants, agency account managers, recruiters, accountants and anyone else who spends the hour after a client call writing it up. You need no AI experience. The lesson is a practice copy, so nothing is recorded and you do not need a Granola account to take it.

## How Granola works, from its own help center

Granola's docs say there is no [meeting bot](https://learn.ynteractive.com/content/glossary/ai-note-taker): it transcribes from your computer's microphone and system audio, so it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Slack huddles without anyone joining the call. You start a note from the meeting notification, from the meeting on the home screen, or with New Note.

Enhanced notes are written automatically when the call ends or when you stop the recording. They combine the transcript, your own notes and the calendar event, and your own lines stay in black so you can tell them apart. You can choose a different template from the sparkle button, regenerate the notes, or ask Granola Chat for changes. Sharing is from the Shared button, with Copy link, email and integrations such as Slack, Notion and HubSpot.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Trusting a number you did not check. Use the source check on budgets, dates and names before anything goes to a client.
- Typing full sentences during the call. A few words at each key moment is enough; Granola fills in the rest.
- Recording without saying so. No bot joins, but you should still tell people you are taking AI notes.
- Sharing more than you need. Share the link with the person who needs it, not the whole client team.

## Plans and privacy

Granola lists a free plan with unlimited meeting notes; notes older than 30 days need a paid plan. Check granola.ai for current plans, and check your firm's recording and client confidentiality rules before you use any AI notetaker on client calls.
