# How do you pin and rename a chat in Claude?

## Why it matters for a small business

After a few weeks, a sidebar full of automatically named chats is hard to search by eye. A chat that holds a good draft or a useful workflow is worth finding again. Pinning and renaming turn a pile of chats into a short list you can scan.

Neither one costs anything or needs a paid plan. The lesson notes that attaching files, follow-ups, pinning and renaming all work on the Free plan. If a chat becomes something you reuse often, the lesson's next step is Claude Projects, which keeps context across chats.

A useful naming habit is to put the customer or topic first and the task second, so a sorted or searched list groups related chats together. The lesson's example name, Carver patio fix, says who and what in three words. Rename a chat as soon as it turns out to be worth keeping, while you still remember what it was about.
