Move a Custom GPT into a ChatGPT Project: what to copy and where it goes
(From the Stepthrough lesson "Replace Your Custom GPT with a ChatGPT Project". Sunny Paws Dog Grooming and its GPT are made up.)

1. COPY THESE FROM THE GPT (More or Explore > GPTs > My GPTs > your GPT > Configure)
Instructions: click in the box, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C.
Conversation starters: write them down.
Knowledge files: note the names. Download them from the editor, or use your own copies.
Capabilities and Actions: note them. Actions do not move to a Project.

THE LESSON'S GPT INSTRUCTIONS
You are the booking helper for Sunny Paws Dog Grooming in Maple Grove.
- Answer in a warm, short, friendly voice. Sign off as "The Sunny Paws team".
- Quote prices only from the Sunny Paws price list. Prices depend on the dog's weight, so ask for it if it's missing.
- When someone wants to cancel or move a booking, explain the policy from the policies file.
- Never promise a time slot. Say Rosa will confirm by text.
- If you don't know, say so and give the shop number, (555) 010-4412.

2. WHERE EACH PIECE GOES IN THE PROJECT
Sidebar > Projects > New project. Name it, choose Project-only memory, Create project.
Instructions: project page > ... > Project settings > Instructions. Paste, add the starter line below, Save.
Conversation starters become one last line of the instructions:
- If I type "menu", offer these starting points: What does a full groom cost? / Can I move my appointment? / Do you groom cats?
Your version:
- If I type "menu", offer these starting points: [STARTER 1] / [STARTER 2] / [STARTER 3]
Knowledge files: Sources tab > Add sources > Upload. Add the same files.

3. TEST IT THE WAY CUSTOMERS USE IT (a chat inside the project)
A customer asks: how much is a bath and a nail trim for my 60 lb goldendoodle, and can I cancel the day before?
In the lesson the right answer is $90 ($75 bath and brush for 50-80 lb, plus a $15 nail trim), free cancellation 24 hours or more ahead, a $25 fee inside 24 hours, and Rosa confirms the time by text.
Your version: one real question that needs both of your files. Compare the answer with what the old GPT says.

4. WHAT DOES NOT MOVE
Custom actions and the public GPT Store link.
Old chats with the GPT. Copy out anything you want to keep.
A Project is shared with invited people, not by a public link.
