Analyze a spreadsheet: the five prompts (From the Stepthrough lesson "Analyze a Spreadsheet" (ChatGPT for Everyday Work). Maple Hollow Garden Center is made up. Swap the words in [BRACKETS] for your own.) THE FILE One row per order, one column per detail. The lesson's file has 7 columns: order_id (a unique ID for each order), date (the day of the sale), category (Plants, Seeds & Bulbs, Soil & Mulch, Tools), product (the item), channel (In store or Online), units (how many) and revenue (the order total in dollars). The sample CSV next to this file has the first 14 rows from the lesson, plus two planted problems to practice the check: ORD-1007 has a blank channel, and ORD-1012 appears twice. 1. CHECK THE FILE FIRST (attach the file with the + button) This is our [BUSINESS]'s sales from [START] to [END]. Before you analyze anything, check the file: tell me what each column means, how many rows there are, the date range, and any problems like duplicates or blank cells. Don't give me any insights yet. 2. YOU DECIDE THE FIX Remove the duplicate orders and label the blank channels "Unknown". Use the cleaned data from now on, and give me the cleaned file. 3. ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, AS TABLES What was our total revenue each month? And which category grew the most from [FIRST MONTH] to [LAST MONTH]? Show both as tables. 4. A CHART Make a line chart of monthly revenue with one line per category. Give it a clear title. 5. END WITH WHAT TO DO Give me the three takeaways a busy owner needs from this data. One sentence each, with the number that backs it up. Then one thing I should double-check before acting on them. BEFORE YOU ACT Check one or two totals against your own records (your register, bank or accounting report). Remove names, emails, card numbers and anything else your rules say should not leave the business before you upload.
